AliExpress and Amazon are both available to European buyers, but they work in very different ways. AliExpress attracts shoppers with low prices and a huge range of cheap accessories, while Amazon wins on delivery speed, easier returns and predictability. The best choice depends on what you are buying and how quickly you need it.
Prices - AliExpress can be cheaper, but calculate the full cost
AliExpress often has lower base prices because you buy directly from manufacturers or sellers in Asia. A product that costs 20 EUR on Amazon can sometimes be found for 5–10 EUR on AliExpress.
However, the difference can shrink after VAT, shipping and import charges. From 1 July 2026, the EU applies a temporary 3 EUR customs duty per tariff item in e-commerce consignments up to 150 EUR from outside the EU. Amazon usually shows total costs more predictably at checkout, so compare the final price, not just the product price.
Delivery time - Amazon clearly wins
This is the biggest difference between the platforms. Amazon Prime offers fast and free delivery on millions of items, often even next day in supported locations. Even without Prime, delivery from European warehouses is usually much faster than classic shipping from China.
AliExpress Standard Shipping usually takes 10–30 business days, and economy shipping can take even longer. Courier options reduce the wait, but can erase AliExpress’s price advantage. If timing matters, Amazon is safer. If you can wait, AliExpress is more often cheaper.
Product quality
Amazon sells both well-known brands and products from third-party marketplace sellers. Amazon has anti-counterfeiting policies and product compliance systems, but that does not mean every marketplace product is automatically perfect. You should still check the seller, reviews and warranty information.
On AliExpress you mostly buy from Chinese manufacturers and sellers. For cases, cables, decorations or simple accessories this is often good enough. For electronics, electrical devices, toys and cosmetics, be more cautious and check CE marking, declaration of conformity, ingredients and buyer reviews.
Important
CE is not a “quality certificate”. It is a conformity mark showing that the manufacturer or importer takes responsibility for meeting EU requirements. For mains-powered products, avoid listings without credible markings, documentation and reviews.
Returns and complaints
Amazon and Marketplace sellers on Amazon.pl allow returns of most products within 30 days of delivery. The process is usually simpler because it happens through Amazon’s account panel, with local return options in supported markets.
AliExpress offers buyer protection, but disputes require evidence and patience. In practice it works best for undelivered parcels, visible damage and clear differences from the listing. For expensive products or complex electronics, returning an item to China may not be cost-effective.
When to choose AliExpress
- You are looking for cheap accessories, gadgets, DIY parts or unbranded products.
- You can wait several weeks for delivery.
- You are buying something that is easy to judge from photos and reviews: cases, organizers, decorations or small tools.
- Price matters more than delivery speed and local returns.
- You want to test a cheaper version of a product before buying a more expensive brand.
When to choose Amazon
- You need the product quickly - in a few days or even next day.
- You are buying electronics, electrical equipment, children’s toys or products where safety matters.
- You are buying branded products and want to reduce counterfeit risk.
- You want an easier 30-day return process and local customer service.
- You are buying a gift for a specific date and cannot risk delays.
Summary
AliExpress and Amazon are best treated as tools for different kinds of shopping. AliExpress works well for cheap accessories and items you can wait for. Amazon is better for urgent, branded, more expensive products or anything that may need an easy return.
Best strategy: compare the same product on both platforms after including VAT, shipping, import charges and delivery time. If the difference is only a few euros, Amazon’s convenience often wins. If the difference is large and the product is low-risk, AliExpress can be a reasonable choice.
