Temu and AliExpress are currently the two most popular Asian shopping platforms in Poland. Both tempt with very low prices and a huge selection, but they work differently enough that the shopping experience - from placing an order to a possible return - can vary a lot. This comparison looks at both from the perspective of a shopper in Poland in 2026.
Two different shopping models
AliExpress (owned by the Alibaba group) is a classic marketplace: you buy from a specific, visible seller with their own rating, history and shipping policy. You choose who you buy from, and the platform handles payment and disputes.
Temu (owned by PDD Holdings, the company behind Pinduoduo) works more like one big store. Sellers are far less visible - the platform sets delivery rules, handles returns and runs customer service. In practice, on Temu you buy "from Temu", while on AliExpress you buy from thousands of independent shops.
Prices - where is it actually cheaper
For cheap no-name products - accessories, gadgets, small home items - prices on both platforms are similar, and coupons and promotions decide the final cost. Temu discounts new users’ purchases very aggressively, so first orders can be exceptionally cheap. AliExpress, in turn, regularly hands out coupons during big sales and has a stronger range of brand electronics, for example Xiaomi devices or well-known accessory makers.
On both platforms, be careful with crossed-out "reference prices" used to calculate impressive discounts - they can be inflated. Compare the final basket price (with delivery and fees), and for pricier products also check what the same model costs in local shops.
Delivery
- Waiting timeStandard shipping from China usually takes one to three weeks on both platforms. Temu often shows a delivery date range with compensation for delays, while AliExpress offers faster options (Standard Shipping, Choice) and shipping from warehouses in Poland and the EU, which cuts delivery down to a few days.
- Parcel pickupBoth platforms deliver to parcel lockers and pickup points, which is usually the most convenient option in Poland.
- Shipping countryAlways check the real shipping country in the listing. Goods from an EU warehouse arrive faster and are not subject to import clearance on the buyer’s side.
Returns and buyer protection
Temu has a centralised, simple returns policy - in most categories you can return items within a long window, and the first return from an order is usually free. That is a big plus for clothes and products whose quality is hard to judge before buying.
On AliExpress the rules depend on the seller and the programme (Choice, for example, has simplified returns), and the main tool is the dispute - it works well for missing deliveries or items not matching the description, but it requires evidence. On both platforms, record yourself unboxing the parcel and do not confirm receipt before checking the contents. Detailed return rules change over time, so check the current terms in the app before buying.
Customs duty and VAT - the same rules for both
When it comes to tax and customs, Temu and AliExpress follow identical rules. VAT applies to every parcel from outside the EU and is usually collected at checkout. Since 1 July 2026, e-commerce parcels worth up to 150 EUR from outside the EU are also subject to a temporary 3 EUR customs duty per tariff item - this affects orders shipped from China on both platforms. All fees should be visible in the cart summary before you pay.
Important
If you want to avoid extra import fees and long delivery times, filter for offers shipped from Poland or the EU - on AliExpress it is a separate filter, and on Temu some listings carry a local-warehouse label.
Product quality and safety
No-name products dominate both platforms and their quality can be a lottery - read reviews with photos and pick listings with a high number of units sold. Be especially careful with products that must meet safety standards: chargers, power banks, toys for small children or mains-powered equipment. Here AliExpress has an edge, because it is easier to buy a known brand from an official store.
Whichever platform you use, stick to the official apps and websites, and treat text messages or e-mails about a "held parcel" with a payment link as a scam attempt - fraudsters love impersonating both brands.
Temu or AliExpress - which should you choose?
- Choose Temuif you buy cheap no-name items, value simple free returns and want all customer service in one place, without comparing sellers.
- Choose AliExpressif you are after brand electronics, want to deliberately pick proven sellers, care about fast delivery from warehouses in Poland and the EU, or keep coming back to stores you already trust.
- Use bothnothing stops you from comparing prices between the platforms - for bigger purchases the differences on individual products can be surprisingly large.
Important
Make your first order on each platform a small one - you will test delivery time, quality and the return process before trusting it with more money.
